The sense & nonsense of bookmark Sites

When I first started this website I've decided to see how it would be to have Bookmark Links under every item. The small icons with links to one of the big Bookmark sites like: Digg, Delicious and Technorati. With these links I gave my visitors a change to bookmark the url of a certain item at one of the Bookmark sites.
But what are Bookmark Sites exactly? Bookmark Sites are in short sites where after creating an account you can list bookmarks to your favourite websites, articles, pictures etc. It's a bigger and better version of the Favourites section of your browser. With an extra that the bookmarks you save can be made public for other users to see. A lot of the Bookmark sites use a voting system to rank the url's listed. This means it's the public who rates the links instead of an unseen Page Ranking system of for example Google.
The interesting part of these sites is that you can reach a big group of viewers with a few easy clicks. As an owner of a website it can be very helpful submitting bookmarks to your website and by doing so generating page views. Beginning websites have to make a lot of effort to be found by search engines and to get visitors. A lot of search engines rank your pages after counting the amount of links directing to your pages. Bookmark Sites can be an easy way of creating new links to pages of newly started websites.

During the development of this website I thought it would be handy to have a few links below my items in order to make it easy for people to save my pages as bookmarks. But since the website is online and I'm checking my pages again I notice that the icons with links bother me. After a couple of reactions regarding the links I've decided to delete them from the pages.
I certainly believe in the positive effect Bookmark Sites can have on a newly started website like mine. Thanks to few bookmarks for TrapperDesign.com I've placed at websites like Furl, Reddit and the Blinklist I've created some traffic to my website in an instant. The reason I've deleted the little icons from my pages is just that there are way to many Bookmarking websites. The selection I've put online where for the big websites focussed mainly on the English market. For the Dutch market you can think of: geenredactie.nl, fisz.nl, ekudos.nl and grubb.nl.
Since I've just started with TrapperDesign.com I will use the different Bookmark sites in the near future to try and get some traffic to my pages. After submitting only a few bookmarks I've seen a rise in traffic and that on itself is reason enough for me. The last weeks I've seen a lot of Bookmark sites and I like the idea of them. It gives me new and exciting websites in an instance rated by the general public. Thanks to the voting and ranking process I'm now capable of viewing sites to see what a 'lot' of people think are great sites.
For everybody who is interested in viewing a Bookmark site I've created a short list with important websites:
digg.com, reddit.com, technorati.com, blinklist.com, stumbleupon.com, delicious.com, furl.com, geenredactie.nl, fisz.nl, ekudos.nl and grubb.nl
Without a doubt I've missed a few but I think the idea is clear. So, are you interested to see what websites others like? Or, do you have your own website which can use some extra page views? Take a look at one of the sites in my list and find your own sense and nonsense within the Bookmark Sites.
